Ray F. "Gutty" Gotwalt, 87, died at 4 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at his home. He was the husband of Ida Catherine (Wilhelm) Gotwalt, who died July 11, 1987. Funeral Friday at WorkingerSemmel F.H. and Crematorium, York, Rev. David W. Lovelace, Rector of Episcopal Church of St. John The Baptist, officiating. Burial in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Mr. Gotwalt was born September 2, 1917, in York. He was the son of the late Ray C. and Mary M. (Lau) Gotwalt. He retired from the former York Naval Ordnance Plant, where he was a machinist for several years. Prior to that, he worked at the former Grothe's Oil Co. for five years. Ray was a member of Episcopal Church of St. John The Baptist. He was a life member of Liberty Fire Co. North York, Rex Hook & Ladder Co., and Laurel Fire Co. #1. Other memberships include the 28th MP Co. National Guard, Transport Co. National Guard C.C. Camp, and associate member of York City F.O.P. Lodge 15. He retired after 15 years with York City Fire Police and was supervisor of the park patrol, of which he was the captain of the Hood Watch. He was a volunteer of police public safety, a former president of Mayor Council of Safe Streets under several mayors, a former president of White Rose Safe Streets, and a recreation director of the Eastern York Co. Midget Football League from 1986 through 1990. Mr. Gotwalt is survived by one daughter, Idarae Y. Olinger and her husband, Brian of York; three grandchildren, Sherry Einsig & husband, Bob, Jay Moul, and Matt Lauer; four greatgrandchildren; one great-greatgrandson; and one brother, George D. Gotwalt of York. He was preceded in death by a gread-grandson, Cory Warfel. [York Daily Record]
