ISAAC N. HIGMAN, deceased, was a son of ROBERT and MARY (VAUGHN) HIGMAN, his father being one of the old and honored pioneers of Tippecanoe County. ROBERT HIGMAN was born in Sussex County, Delaware, where he was reared to manhood. He was three times married, taking for his first wife MISS MARY VAUGHN. In the spring of 1832 he started West with his family, then consisting of his wife and their only son, ISAAC N., going as far as Ohio, where he remained until the autumn of that year, when he resumed his journey to Tippecanoe County, Indiana. He then settled on section 3, Fairfield Township, on a tract of 160 acres entered by him from the Government, which land is still in possession of the family. Here he made a good home, living on the place until his death which occurred in April 1860. By his first marriage h e had three children who reached maturity—ISAAC, our subject, HESTER ANN and CHRISTENA, of whom only the latter is living at the present time. MR. HIGMAN, Sr., though his advantages for obtaining an education when young was limited, was a great reader, and a man of considerable intelligence, and was respected by all who knew him. In his political views he was a Democrat of the Jackson school.

ISAAC N., whose name heads this sketch, was a native of Delaware, born January 6, 1832, being about six months old when his parents settled in this county, where he was reared on his father’s frontier farm. He was united in marriage September 24, 1857, to MISS ELEANOR HUFF, whose father, EDMUND HUFF, was one of the prominent pioneers of this county. Eight children were born to this union, of whom six are still living—ROBERT E., PERRY, FRANCIS N., CLARA E. (wife of JOSEPH HART), ANNA L., and LILLIAN M. Those deceased are—JOHN P., who died in his twentieth year, and an infant daughter. MR. ISAAC HIGMAN died on the old homestead, where he spent the greater part of his life, in February 1873.
