Virginia Griffith passed from this earthly life on Sunday, December 22,2019.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear friend, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother who was blessed with 93 years.
Virginia was born to Coy and Mary Waddell Fugate on November 21, 1926 in Wise County, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 68 years, Lacy H Griffith (2012) and her only child, Harold Dean Griffith, (2017) and her brother, Eugene Fugate (1972).
Virginia was a hairdresser and owned her own shop, Virginia’s Beauty Plaza in Beckley, WV. She met many people in the Beckley area and made many friends working at her shop. Virginia was a member of First Baptist Church of Shady Spring most of her life. She was loyal to her Sunday School class and loved the friends and outings they all participated in as their families grew up. She was a noted cook and made wonderful meals for her family and her church family. Everyone looked forward to her baked apples, au grautin potatoes, her rolls and her Cold Oven Pound Cake. Virginia sang alto in the choir and loved cantatas at Easter and Christmas. She loved church and attended as long as her health allowed. Virginia and her husband also enjoyed traveling and camping in their RV. They crossed the United States two different trips and enjoyed camping at the beach.
Survivors left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law, Kathy, who was her caregiver the past five years. Her grandchildren, Karyn and Mark and her grandson- in-law, Ben, and her great grandson, Andrew. These children were the true light of her heart. She truly enjoyed her grandchildren who lived next door to her from birth until they move on as adults.
Special thanks to the staff at the Raleigh Center, Daniels, WV and The Rockin’ Chair, Lerona, WV for the special attention and care she received.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Shady Spring, with Pastor Delvin Elwell Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Shady Spring, P.O. Box 1291, Shady Spring, WV. 25918 in memory of Mrs. Griffith.
