In 1910 the Courtney's were living on a farm in the rural Saint Clair area. Katie's father owned there own house and farm and it was free of a mortgage
Katie was 14 years old and living on a farm near them was girl friend the same age, Nora Beck, the daughter of John and Brosia Beck.
On Sept. 1, 1915 Katie married her cousin Robert N Russell in her home town. In the next 10 years Katie gave birth to the following six children: Edward Russell 1917; Addie Louise Russell 1918; Carl E Russell 1918; Louise Russel 1919; Ruth Russell 1924, and Roy Russel 1927.
The 1920 census stated that Katie and Robert had moved to Pike, Lyon Co., Kansas. Their first children had been born. They were living in a rented house and he was employed as a farmer. In the Kansas State census of 1925 the family were living in the same place, but, Robert was working as a Meat cutter.
The 1930 census found them still in Pike, Lyon Co., Kansas. They were paying $10.00 a month for a rented house, and Robert was working as a laborer for the rail road.
The 1940 census revealed that Robert had completed all 8 grades of elementary and one year of high school, Katie had finished 8 grades of elementary school. Their daughter Ruth was still going to school, and had finished 1 year of high school. Roy was also still in school in it eight grade. By 1935 their $10.00 a month rented home was at No. 13, Neosho Street, Emporia, Lyon, Kansas. Robert had steady work on the rail road. He now was a laborer on the section crew, and making $900.00 a month.
The next year, on Aug., 16, 1941, death claimed Katie's dear husband, Robert Nathaniel Russell.
Katie gathered her family and friends around her dearly beloved Robert's gravesite at the Cottonwood Cemetery to bid him farewell, and to Rest in Peace
Some time later Katie chose to marry again. Her memorial stone revealed that the surname of her second husband was Workman.
Katie lived to be 80 years old. The Lord called her home on Sept., 11, 1976. Her resting place is next to her first husband in the Cottonwood Cemetery.
