The Monroe Watchman of last week says: "Of peculiar sadness was the sudden and shocking death of Mrs Lillie Belle Bowles, wife of Mr Wm A Bowles which took place at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs M H Erskine, near Union, of heart disease, which took place at 30 minutes after midnight on Monday morning last, Jan 6, 1902. Her husband had arisen to bring her a glass of water and when he returned he saw that she had suddenly become violently ill. He called hurriedly for aid but before her mother could reach the room Mrs Bowles had expired. Thus came to a blighting and untimely close a happy dream of love and hope. On Christmas day Mrs Bowles had become the bride of an honorable and highly respected young man and their future seemed bright with goodly prospects - yet within ten days she became the bride of Death and passed to celestial scenes leaving many desolate hearts to mourn her.
