Married Elizabeth D. Alexander June 1843 Lawrence county Indiana. They had six children: Sarah, Mary , Alice, Samuel, John, and Robert.

Bartholomew Phillips died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Jontry at the Columbia Hotel in Chenoa Wednesday at 6:30 pm, neuralgia of the stomach being the direct cause of his death; although on account of his age he has been in a very feeble condition for several months. He was born in North Carolina and was nearly 85 years old. He moved with his parents to Indiana when he was 7 years old and came to Chenoa in 1868 where he has since resided. He was married June 22, 1843 and his wife died five years ago. He was a shoe maker by trade, which occupation he followed up to a few years ago. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a man with many friends. He is survived by three children: Mrs. Mary Jontry, Mrs. Kate Alexander and Samuel Phillips.
