Carl Sanford Jolly, Sr., 88, died Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango, Colo.

Mr. Jolly was born February 15, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of George and Marcella Jolly. He grew up in Nevada and graduated from Central High School in Reno. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Marines and was involved with WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam and other campaigns. He was in the military for 20 years and then in the reserves for 10 years. His family moved all over, including Virginia, California and Nevada. After his military career, Carl worked for the U.S. Postal Service for another 20 years in Reno. He retired in 1985, and he and his wife bought a 5th wheel and traveled all over the United States. They went through every state except Michigan. They lived in Washington, North Carolina and Texas, and then in August 2012, they moved to Bayfield, Colo., to be close to their daughter, Rose.

Carl enjoyed reading biographies, talking politics and the grandeur of Colorado. He was a member the V.F.W. Post #9211 and the American Legion Post #1 in Reno. His family remembers, "He was very much a patriot. He loved his country and his family."
