She was born May 29, 1907, in the Burr community in Ripley County, the daughter of Roshier Cursean and Sarah Elizabeth Smelser Cates. On Nov. 23, 1923, she married Luther Elmer Banks, who died Nov. 8, 1949.
After leaving Charleston, she lived in California for 28 years, moving to Iowa in 1993. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Iva Jane Montgomery and Judy Yvonne Williams; two sisters, Bertha Dove Sisk and Sarah Carner; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sons and one grandson.
Funeral service will be held Friday at the McMikle Funeral Home here.
Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery.
