Violet Belle Keithley was born as the oldest child of Joseph Henry and Martha Ann Conn Keithley in Fairview, Fulton, Illinois. Her family moved from Illinois to Jasper County, Missouri in the mid 1880s. She had two sisters, Eva and Mabel, one brother, Leo, and a half-brother, Arthur, and half-sister, Susie; her parents and Eva and Susie predeceased her.
Violet married Thomas Newton Todd in 1899; they had four children - Alvin Louis, Lillian Clarissa, Clyde Odell, and Julia May before Newt died in 1917. After placing Alvin and Clyde with family members and Julia with neighbors, she worked, generally keeping books. Violet married Oscar Everett Willcoxen in about 1922 and continued to live in Kansas until his death in 1938. She then moved to California where daughter Lillian, husband and grandson were living. She married Walter Salmon Stone in 1939 for a brief time and then married Robert Downing Peters in 1947 (her husband at the time of her death).
