Mr. Hayes was vice-president of Strawsine Manufacturing, retiring in 1973.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Owosso on Thursday, November 10 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Carol J. Johns will officiate with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso. Visitation will be at Jennings-Lyons Funeral Chapel, Owosso today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a special Masonic service Wednesday evening at 6:30p.m. at the funeral Chapel.
Mr. Hayes was born in Owosso on April 31, 1909, the son of August and Maude (Kline) Hayes. He had been a resident of Corunna all his life. On July 9, 1933, he and Elinor Berry were married in Corunna. She passed away August 8, 1988.
Mr. Hayes was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a life member of Owosso Lodge #81 F. & A.M., a member of the Metropolitan Club of Owosso, a past member of Fratenal Order of Eagles #851 of Owosso, Corunna First Citizen of the Year in 1951, past member and past president of Corunna Rotary Club, former member of the Corunna Board of Education for 24 years and was president for 10 years, former member of the Corunna Caledonia Township Fire Department for 40 years and also served as assistant chief; former member of the Corunna City Council and a member of the Corunna Building Authority. Mr. Hayes loved music and played the organ and piano. He also, at one time, had his own band.
Survivors include: three sons, Duane (Hetty) Hayes, Dale and fiancee Bonnie and Dan (Kathy) Hayes; three daughters, Darlene (Frank) Ustynek, Diane (Keith) Johnson and Mary (Ed) Henry; 19 grandchildren; three brothers and one sister. He was predeceased by his wife, Elinor, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, daughter-in-law, Sharon, one sister, Grace Stephens.
