He spent his early boyhood years on his Father's farm. He was married to Mollie Lorenz, who passed away in 1966. This first marriage was blessed with three sons: LeRoy, Lawrence, Gene Melvin, and one daughter, Adelle, who died in infancy.

December 30, 1915 - Leoti Standard (Leoti, Kansas)
Lornz - Schwindt
A beautiful home wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Lornz on Sunday, December 19th when their daughter Miss Mollie was united in marriage to Mr. Nicholas Schwindt, Jr. Rev. Claus Neve officiating on account of Rev. Sievers sickness. A large number of relatives and friends were present to witness the ceremony. The bride is a daughter of John Lornz and wife of Timken, and is a very respected young lady. The groom is a son of Nick Schwindt of Leoti, and is a very prosperous young farmer. Immediately after the ceremony the guests partook of a sumptuous dinner, which was prepared for the occasion. The bride and groom will make their home at Leoti. The Bee with a host of friends extends their most hearty congratulations - Bison Bee
We will forgive young Nick this time but the very next time he goes away to get married without letting us know, there will be trouble.
