He taught school after attending Boone Normal School, Boone, N.C., in 1903. In 1905, he attended Draughon's Practical Business College in Knoxville, Tenn. He owned and operated the Troutdale Produce Company in Troutdale, Va., prior to purchasing a dairy farm in Harford County in 1929.
In 1981, he and his sons, Hayden and Gordon and grandson David received a citation for shipping milk to the Maryland-Virginia Milk Producers Association for a period of 50 years. He was proclaimed a "Harford Living Treasure" in 1980 because of his knowledge of farming. O. G. was presented a silver engraved plate as the oldest member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church where he had taught Sunday School for more than 30 years.
He is survived by three sons, Lester of Troutdale, Va., Gordon and Hayden of Bel Air; three daughters, Edith Halsey, Marion, Va., Clara Richardson of Bel Air and Hazel Wagner of Baltimore; also 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at Oak Grove Baptist Church, June 14th, with Rev. Aubrey Stewart, Rev. Harold Hubble and Rev. Roy Turner officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were David Reedy, Ronald Richardson, Bill Halsey, Norman Grafton, Philip Moyer and J. L. Reedy.
The Foster Funeral Home, Bel Air, was in charge of the arrangements.
