Mr. Rufus Condon, 86, of Friendship, died Wednesday evening, November 21st, at the home of his nephew, Clinton C. Lawry, in Melrose, Mass. He had been in poor health since last spring. Mr. Condon was born in Friendship, and a side from a few years in Massachusetts, always lived there. he was an outstanding boat builder, while he built boats, he specialized in the latter class. His boats seemed to hold a special charm, for there has never been a record of serious accident in once which he built. The first Condon boat was a Catamaran, launched in 1884, and the last a power boat launched in 1949. Mr. Condon was well known and loved in Friendship. He had always been active in town affairs; was deacon and treasurer of the Baptist church for many years, and superintendent of the Sunday school. On October 10th the Condons had celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary. He leaves his widow, Susan G. Waltz Condon, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church of Friendship on Saturday, November 24th, under the direction of the Waltz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles MacDonald officiating. Pall bearers were Clinton Lawry, Stanley Lawry, Dr. Oram Lawry, Sr., Dr. Oram Lawry, Jr., Frank Foster and Chester Brown.
