Albert had a brother who died in infancy before he was born. As was common practise at the time, he was named Albert too. His middle name was registered as George, but he is often recorded as Edward - the middle name of his brother - indeed, he did not know his DoB (Apr-May-Jun 1892) or birthplace (Easthampstead, Berkshire, England).

In 1904 Albert departed Liverpool, England on 21 Jul aboard the SS Southwark, with a group from Barnardo's Homes. Arrived 31 July 1904 in Quebec, Canada. Transferred by train to the Barnardo's Receiving Home, Toronto, Ontario. Indentured for farm labour work to the Marshalls in Blenheim, Ontario, Canada.

Enlisted in 1916. Confined to Barracks or hospital for most of 1916 and 1917, he eventually settled in 1918 in the Signals Company, 1st Bn. Canadian Infantry. Demobilised in May 1919.

Albert married a fellow British Home Child, Elizabeth Desmond, who had emigrated in 1909 with Annie Macpherson Homes to Stratford, Ontario and was indentured as a maid. They married in Blenheim in 1921.
Albert died in 1966 and 'Lizzie' in 1987
