Virgean Rightmyer Knight (Mrs. F. James) passed away on July 4, 2013 at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.
Born May 7, 1934 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, she was the daughter of Otis and Blanche Ortenburg Rightmyer and graduated from Sault High School in 1952. She then attended the Sault Branch of Michigan Technological Univ. for one year before transferring to the Univ. of Michigan, and graduated in 1957 with a BS in Nursing. She subsequently became a Registered Nurse in MI and PA.
On Sept. 14, 1957 she married F. James Knight in the First Presbyterian Church of Sault Ste. Marie. They lived in MI, CO, AZ and SD before moving to the Harrisburg area in 1963. In recent years the couple has lived in the Hummelstown/ Hershey area, has spent a few weeks each summer in their native Northern Michigan, and has wintered in Arizona. Mr. Knight survives her and is living in Hummelstown.
In addition to her beloved husband, James, she is also survived by son Michael, his wife Julia and their children Stephen and Caroline of Harrisburg; daughter Kathryn, her husband William Ryan and children Sean and Shannon of Bridgeville, PA; daughter Karen, her husband Gregory Roden-Reynolds and children Devin and Cody of Falls Church, VA; and son Christopher, his wife Carrie and children Cassidy and Taylor, of Camp Hill.
Virgean was an active member of Paxton Presbyterian Church where she served as both a Deacon and an Elder, and where she sang in the Church choir for many years. She loved choir participation, and sang wherever she resided throughout her life. She was active in her church's Women's Association, was a past member of the Board of Homeland Center, and a Past President of the Professional Engineers Auxiliary. She was an active member of the Harrisburg Area Author's Club. A devoted wife and mother, she was a warm and loving person and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at her church, 3500 Sharon St. in Paxtang, on Saturday, July 13 at 11:00 AM. Friends may greet the family at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Paxton Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
