He was born in Burnett Co., Bashaw Community to John and Sylvia (Olson) Bakker. He attended the University of Minnesota Agriclture Experimental Station in Sturgeon Bay.
He married Erma Millard in Dewey township on 10 June 1930, with sister, Shirley Bakker and future brother-in-law, Ray Swan serving as witnesses. They resided in Bashaw township and then moved on to the farm of Erm's parents in Dewey township, where they farmed. He retired in 1986 and moved to Shell Lake. He and his wife have been residents of Cumberland for one year.
Hubert was a member of Lake Park Alliance Church and served on several church boards. He also served the township of Dewey as an election board member, assessor for 11 years and a school board member for 16 years.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Holman and one brother, John Bakker, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Erma, Cumberland; four daughters, Patricia (Carrol) Messinger, Barneveld, Lois (Earl) Meyer, Cumberlad, Marilyn (Bud) Scalzo, Spooner and Linda (Gerry) Millikin, Rice Lake; one foster, Carl (Karen) Haupt, Kenosha; 12 grandchildren and 21 gr-grandchldren; a sister, Shirley Bakker and a sister-in-law, Lilli Bakker, Shell Lake; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Lake Park Alliance Church, with Rev. Kirk Petterson officiating. Burial in Clam River Cemetery. Pocket Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
