Judy Backhaus, a lifelong Rockdale resident, was born in Rockdale to Alton and Betty (Gest) Backhaus. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale. Miss Backhaus was a Rockdale High School graduate, graduate of Taylor Hospital Nursing School as an L.V.N. and a Medical Lab Technician from Temple College. Retired, she was a volunteer for Heavenly Treasures in Rockdale and was serving on their task force. She was also an avid bowler. Funeral services for Miss Backhaus, 43, were held Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Brian Bauer of Peace Lutheran and Rev. Herb Lammert officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. She died at her home in Rockdale. Rockdale Reporter, November 14, 2002
