The son of Simeon and Nancy Gilbert.

A 42 year-old Butcher from Pelham, MA, Simeon Gilbert enlisted on November 18, 1863 and was mustered into service with the Second Mass. Heavy Artillery on December 7, 1863. Captured and taken prisoner at Plymouth, NC on April 20, 1864, Gilbert died at Andersonville on July 29, 1864 due to Chronic Diarrhea.
