William Clarke Wardlaw, a son of Robert Henry Wardlaw, Sr. and the former Miss Eliza Bowie was born on Sept. 3rd 1837 in Abbeville.
William Wardlaw graduated from South Carolina College in 1858, with a A.B. degree. He then graduated from the Medical School in 1861.
William later attended the Pennsylvania Dental School and received his D.D.S. in 1866.
During the Civil War, William Wardlaw served as a Captain in the 2nd Regiment South Carolina Volunteers Rifles 1861 until surrender in 1865.
William was married Miss Mary Josephine Thompson on May 27th 1862. This union was blessed with the following known children:
Charlotte (1867 – 1956)
Robert James (1869 – 1936)
William Clarke, Jr. (1874 – 1948)
Eliza (1876 – 1955)
Sallie (1879 – 1968)
Josephine Mary (1884 – 1953)
After Josie died, in 1886, William married Miss Harriet Chumley Adams, daughter of Rev. Adams of First Presbyterian Church in Augusta.
This union had one daughter: Harriet Chumley (1890 - 1976)
