Bronson W. Brooks was born at Portland, Me. September 18, 1835. He left home at the age of sixteen coming to Illinois, where he lived until the beginning of the Civil War when he enlisted in the 11th Illinois Volunteer Infantry for three month's service, re-enlisting August 22, 1861 in the 55th Illinois Infantry, and serving three years and one month.
Shortly after the close of the war he came to Iowa and settled near Plymouth Rock, Howard Co. He was united in marriage with Mary E. Goodrick at Cresco, July 4th 1871, and in this union five children, two daughters and three sons, were born, all of whom survive him. One son, Abram J., is resident of Wancoma. In 1895 Mr. Brooks moved to Lawler, Iowa, where he since resided, with the exception of a couple of years spent at Pleasent Plain, Tenn. and where Mrs. Brooks died Oct. 1, 1899.
Mr. Brooks passed from this life Sunday, April 28th, 1907, at the home of his daugther, Mrs. Chas. Marvin of Lawler, age 72 years. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in this city, conducted by Rev. Frost, on Tuesday and burial was made in Waucoma cemetery.
He has also gone by the name Nathan Brooks.
