Lou is one of seven children born to Levi Smith and Celia (Marsh) Smith.

Lou was married twice, she was united in marriage to James Franklin Hawkins. To this union 3 daughters and one son were born; Eula, Hazel, Marguerite, and Edward.

After 21 years of marriage, James was accidently killed by a bullet that ricocheted.

Later Lou was united in marriage to Benjamin F. Scott, whom passed away in 1958.

Lou had farm and took care of chickens all by herself until 1958 when her daughter helped her.
