Mrs. Fenna Elinga nee Nobbe was born January 25th, 1865, in Bellingwolde, Holland, the daughter of Lammert Nobbe and Greetje nee Kmitzinga. At twenty years of age she was united in holy wedlock to Cornelius Elinga, a carpenter in Bellingwolde, the surviving husband. To this union five children were born two sons, now living in our town and working with the father as carpenters, and three daughters, two of them married, Beka to Cornelius Luusbergen and Gertreida to Gerd Hoffman, the youngest daughter, Fenna Cornelia, is still at home. In March 1913 the deceased came to our country and settled in Sterling, where her son Lammert was living. In the winter of 1914-1915 she began to suffer with stomach trouble, but though she was taken to the Lincoln Hospital and went through an operation, she did not recover. June 5 at noon she left her beloved husband children and went to that Great Beyond, from whence no pilgrim returns. Her age was 50 years, 4 months and 10 days.
The interment was made Monday afternoon, June 7, from the home of her husband, Cornelius Elinga, to the Lutheran cemetery. A large crowd showed the high esteem of this lady, whose coffin was covered all over with beautiful flowers. Rev. H. E.
Wunderlich made an impressive sermon from Joh. Ev. 11,28.
Pallbearers were Weert Boden, Dick Boatsman, Harm Harms, John Janssen, Henry Kruger and Warnke.
May she rest in peace and the eternal light enlighten her.
