There is no record confirming Jesse J. Roberts is buried here in Sand Lick Cemetery.

Jesse was a son of Cornelius Roberts (abt1745--Jun1778) and Mary Polly Benton Roberts (abt1750-). Location of these parents is not known. Cornelius was reported to have been killed by Indians.

Jesse married Mary Polly Skaggs 1797 and there were 5 children born to this marriage:

Jesse owned land in Cumberland County, in the area that is now Monroe County, Kentucky, before moving to the Green County, Kentucky area that later became Taylor County. The Roberts lived on Pitman Creek.

In the 1850 Taylor County, Kentucky census Jesse Roberts is head of household 262. He is 72 yrs of age, a farmer, born in Virginia. His wife, Mary, is 71 and also born in Virginia. There is a young man, Jesse Graham, age 23, born in Kentucky, living with them. Jesse lived next door to Henry Sympson, age 49.

Bastard Case - Green County Clerks Office Rachel Grayham, a single woman of Green County declared that on 8 March 1826 at the house of Drury Thompson, she was delivered of a female bastard child and charges that Jesse Roberts is the father.
Roberts was placed in jail. He escaped from jail on 17 April, 1826.
1 March 1827
Roberts took the child to raise and paid Rachel $10 and costs. Attest: Elias Barbee, Richard Perkins and John Taylor.

Margaret Skaggs vs. Jesse Roberts and John C. Skaggs.
Margaret holds a note on Roberts and Skaggs dated 1840 and she released him from the same. It hasn't been paid.
Roberts says on 10 Sept. 1849, he paid $55 to Margaret, and she released him from the note.

This Indenture made and entered into this 27th day of April 1849 Between Jesse Roberts & Mary Roberts his wife of the one part and William Hash of the other part & all of the county of Taylor and State of Kentucky. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and ninety one dollars to me in hand paid the receipt for which is hereby acknowledged, I the said Jesse Roberts hath granted, bargained, sold & conveyed and by these presents doth bargain, grant, sell and convey unto the said William Hash all that tract or parcel of land situated and being in the county of Taylor & state of Kentucky and on the waters of Pitmans Creek and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a black oak on the line of the lands sold by Henry Skaggs to James Roberts thence N20 W190 poles to a sassafras & maple on a small branch & also a forked maple which is a corner to Nourses survey thence with a line said Nourses survey due east 100 poles to a black oak in another corner of Nourses survey & also a corner to Henry Johnson thence with said Johnson's line due south 181 poles to three dogwoods in said line corner of the said land sold by Henry Skaggs to James Roberts thence with a line of said land N80 W32 poles to the beginning containing 63 acres and 112 poles with all and singular appertenaces thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining. To have and tol hold the same to himself his heirs and assigns forever and the said Jesse Roberts and Mary his wife doth Convenant and agree they will forever warrant and defend the title to said land to him said William Hash and his heirs and asigns against the claim or claims of each and every other person whatsoever. In witness whereof we have hereunto set out hands and seals this day and date first above written.

Taylor County Deed Book 2, Page 254 - 255 This Indenture made and entered into this 14th day of December in the year of our Lord 1853 between Jessee Roberts and Mary Roberts his wife of the one part and Henry Johnson of the other part all of the County of Taylor and State of Kentucky, Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of Two Hundred and twenty five dollars in hand paid the receipt of whereof is hereby acknowledged have this day granted, bargained and sold and do by these presents grant, bargain, sell, convey and deliver unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract or parcel of land, Situated, lying and being in the County of Taylor and State aforesaid and on the waters of Pitmans Creek Containing 71 acres and 90 poles and bounded as follows, Beginning at a black oak in William Hash's line a corner of Abraham Underwood thence with said Hash's line N20W125 poles to a forked maple on a small branch a corner of Charles Nourse's survey to a maple and 3 sasafras, thence S59W65 poles to 2 black oaks on the road another corner of said Nourse's survey thence with the road and a dividing line between said Jessee Roberts and Randolph Robinson S37W48 poles to a stake in the road a corner to said Roberts & Robinson thence with another dividing line between said Roberts and Robinson S16E70 poles to a black oak, chestnut and sasafras in said line a corner to A. Underwood thence N77 E116 poles to the beginning, being a part of Charles Nourse's 524 acre survey to have and to hold the said granted and bargained premises with all the appurtenaces thereto belonging or in anywise appurtaining to him the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever free from the claim or claims of the said parties of the first part and their heirs, executors or adminsitrators and the said parties of the first part for themselves, their heirs, executors and adminsitrators do hereby Covenant and agree the above conveyed premises to him the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns against the claims or demands of all persons whatsoever forever herafter to warrant, secure and defend.

Whereupon the said deed & this certificate are duly recorded in my office. Given under my hand January 2, 1854.
