Rites Tuesday For Oscar Gilbertson

Native of County Succumbs to Stomach Ailment October 11

Was Farmer And Business Man

Oscar Gilbertson, well and favorably known in this county, died in the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha following an operation for stomach trouble, last Saturday, October 11. He had been ailing for a long period of years and had been under the care of a physician most of the time.

Deceased was born in this county, in the Spiker neighborhood, on August 15, 1879, and his entire life had been spent here. On October 16, 1907, he was married to Miss Nellie Johnson, the ceremony being performed in Herman. They at once came to Blair where Oscar was engaged in the grocery business and here they continued to live until the store was traded for a farm.

The farm, located west of Blair, was their home for several years, but he returned to his old stand on North Walker Avenue where he continued in business until a few days ago, when the business was sold on account of his health.

To Mr. and Mrs. Gilbertson three daughters were born, Mrs. Agnes Maher and Mrs. Dorothea Bednar of Blair, and Mrs. Jean Robertson of Shreveport, Louisiana. These with the widow survive him. Besides these, two brothers, Ed and Fred Gilbertson of Blair, and four sisters, Mrs. John Trainor of Cairo, West Virginia; Mrs. H. B. Marshall of Burnsville, West Virginia; Mrs. Charles Daffer of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska, and Mrs. Guy Cook of Blair, also survive.

In the death of Oscar Gilbertson, Blair loses a witness who has lived for years in our midst and who has made for himself a reputation for honesty and fair dealing that should be the envy of all. Always cheerful, always with a good word for everyone, he numbered his friends by his large circle of acquaintances. He made no pretensions, but his life spoke volumes and should be an example for all.
