Stephen was the son of Jeremiah Vaughan and Mary Hoben. He married Mary Flynn on April 16, 1928 in Emmetsburg, IA. They were the parents of Patrick, John, Thomas, and Mary Ellen.

Oct 16, 1973 - Emmetsburg Reporter - Funeral services will be today, Oct. 16, for Stephen Patrick Vaughan, age 74, of Mallard, who died Oct. 14 at Palo Alto County Hospital, Emmetsburg. Services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. today at Assumption Catholic Church, with the Rev. Elmer Thorn officiating. Casket bearers will be Francis Flaherty, Joe Walsh, Kenneth Lockwood, Charles Kunz, Bill Schupfer, and Gene Flynn. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Emmetsburg, with Martin-Bails Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Vaughan, the son of Jeremiah and Mary Hoben Vaughan, was born Feb. 5, 1899, in Oakdale, Neb. The family lived in Washington for a time, and moved to Mallard when Stephen was 12, years old.

Vaughan married Mary Flynn on April 16, 1928, in Emmetsburg.

Survivors include his widow; three children, John J. of Emmetsburg and Thomas J. and Mrs. Dennis (Mary Ellen) Schumacher, both of Mallard; a brother, John J. of Mallard; and 11 grandchildren.
