Funeral services for Peggy Walker Butler, age 75, will be held Tuesday July 2 from the chapel of Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral home at 2:00 pm, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Garden Hills Cemetery in Opelika. Peggy is the daughter of the late William Walker and Lois Gladys Brassell Walker. Survived by husband Coy G. Butler of Opelika, daughter Carol B. Senn, son-in-law Keith Senn and grandchildren Alan and Lauren Senn of Panama City Beach, FL, daughter Kathy B. Mann and son-in-law Josh Mann of Woodstock, GA, and daughter Julie Butler of Auburn, AL. Siblings survived by Mrs. Butler are Willodean Walker Carroll and the late brother-in-law Grady Carroll of Opelika, William A. Walker and sister-in-law Kathy Walker of Moultrie, GA, and Dickie Walker and sister-in-law Alice Walker of Opelika and many nieces and nephews. Peggy Butler was born September 17, 1937 in Wetumpka, AL and moved to Opelika with her family at the age of three. At the age of seven, she attended VBS one summer where she learned just how much Jesus loved her. A member of the class of 1957, she attended Cliff High School where she learned her love of gardening through a horticulture workshop program where she worked at Hall’s Florist for a period of time. She later was employed at Ampex for about four years. Married in 1969 to Coy G. Butler, she soon began her greatest achievement, which was that of mother and grandmother. Being a homemaker and raising her three girls brought her great joy. The many trips to piano lessons, baton lessons, softball practices, and band practices were all done with love and support for her children. She also continued her love of gardening through the years within her own yard tending to her many varying rose bushes and assorted arrangements within her flower beds. Peggy Butler will be remembered by those who know and love her for her compassionate heart, her ability to empathize with another, the craftmanship of her many pieces of embroidery, her humble nature, the amazing way she can find humor in most any circumstances, the talented green thumb she had, and to her grandchildren, those early morning scrambled eggs and bacon, hugs, and wiffle ball in the back yard. She’s with Jesus now, but oh, how she will be missed. We love you! Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be directed to American Cancer Society. Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home & Crematory directing.
