Crime victim. Safiro Teixeira Furtado and Jorge Correia de Abreu were friends who grew up on the island country of Cape Verde off the coast of western Africa. In 2012 they were both residents of Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

On Sunday night, July 15, 2012 they went to a club called "Cure" in the South End of Boston where an argument broke out. Sometime after midnight they and 3 other men left the club with Daniel driving a BMW sedan. They stopped at a traffic light on Shawmut Avenue, about to make a left turn onto Herald Street, when a silver or gray SUV with Rhode Island license plates pulled alongside them. Someone from the SUV opened fire, killing the 2 men in the front seat and injuring one of the 3 passengers in the back seat.

Police responded to a call just after 2 a.m. ET and determined that the deceased were Safiro Furtado @28 and Daniel Abreu @29. The 2 friends were buried next to each other. The case remained unsolved for a year, until Police arrested NFLs New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez for the shooting. Hernandez was charged and tried for the 2 murders. The seven women and five men of the Suffolk Superior Court Jury took 37 hours and 5 1/2 days to decide Hernandez was Not Guilty.

The murder cases are now considered closed with no convictions on record.

Aaron Hernandez has since died of a suicide
