Lena was the daughter of Jacob William and Katarina (Seewald) Oster. She married John Andrew Smith in 1879 and they had six children: Florence Clara, Carl Arlington, Grover Cleveland, Clinton Oliver, Otto Lafayette and Corletta Katherine.

SMITH

Mrs. Lena Frederica Smith, wife of John smith, died very suddenly at her home on the South Greenfield Road about 8 o'clock Wednesday evening, following an illness of about six weeks. The deceased had been in poor health for several years but had been confined to her bed for but a few days. Bright's disease was the immediately cause of her death.
The deceased was born in this city July 11, 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Oster, an old and well known family in this county.
She was married to John Smith, Dec. 9, 1880, and had resided in the county on a farm until her death. Besides her husband she is survived by six sons and daughters, Carl A. Smith of Garrett, Ind.; Grover C. and Otto L., who reside at home; Mrs. Harry Sexton, who resides on the South Greenfield Road; Mrs. Emma Renninger and Clinto smith, of this city.
She was the first of a family of seven children to die, four brothers and two sisters surviving: Mrs. Christ Weinig, of this city;Mrs. Arlington Dunn, who resides on the Fostoria Road; Fred Oster, of this city; W. A. Oster of Cape City, Kentucky; Louis Oster of South Bend, Ind; and Otto Oster of Cleveland. Six grandchildren also survive.
The deceased was an active member of the Second Reformed Church and devoted mother and wife, and her untimely death death is mourned by a host of friends who knew and respected her.
