John came to NB, Canada with his mother Katherine O'Brien Fleming and step father Michael Fleming about 1857 to join other family members. When his sister's husband died from diptheria, Michael Fleming brought the wole family to Maine where the women got work in boarding houses and Michael worked in Quarries. This was probably about 1870.
John married 1st Susan C. Maker and had three children: Lucy C., Agnes and John R. They lived in St George, ME. The couple divorced. Susan remarried and lived in Vermont. John met and married the widow Helen Jones Benner who had four children. They raised them and three more children Mary Etta, Thomas and George on Hurricane Island, ME. They lived their older years in Rockland, ME.
