Amy Marlette, 55, of Idaho Falls, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, after a courageous six-year battle with breast cancer.

Amy was born Oct. 11, 1957, in Oakland, Calif., to Varro and Colette Clark. Two younger brothers and a sister completed the family. At age 13, Amy developed brittle Type I diabetes. Most of Amy's high school years were spent in Kentucky, where she acquired all the grace and charm of a southern belle, but her senior year and graduation were in Pennsylvania. The family moved to Idaho, where Amy earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Idaho State University (ISU) in Speech/ Language Pathology.

Amy met Guy Marlette, her husband of 30 years, at ISU. They were married June 18, 1983.

After graduation, Amy worked as a speech therapist in Idaho Falls and started her private practice. For over 20 years, Amy worked on various contracts, ending with the Blackfoot School District and the Southeastern Idaho Development Center in Blackfoot.

Amy's greatest desire was to be a mother, but she resigned herself to not having children because of her diabetes. Her doctors encouraged her to reconsider since her blood sugar was under tight control, which significantly lowered the risks. After two very intense pregnancies, Amy became the mother of two wonderful, beautiful miracle children: Marcus in 1997 and Alexis in 2000. Amy loved being a mother and dreamed of seeing her children grow up -- graduations, college, weddings and grandchildren. Amy lived for her children and will be always with them.

Amy loved art, traveling, decorations, design and the natural beauty of the world around her. Like an artist's brush, she touched the lives of many people who loved her, and we in turn were touched by a very special creation.

Amy was a member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church and also attended Christ Community Church. In conjunction with Saint Paul's, Amy started an Easter basket project with local prisons. The project helps inmates create Easter baskets for their children and provides baskets for the children visiting inmates. Over 100 Easter baskets are prepared and distributed each year. The project was very close to Amy's heart.

Amy is survived by her husband, Guy Marlette of Idaho Falls; son, Marcus Marlette and daughter, Alexis Marlette, both of Idaho Falls; brothers, Stewart Clark of Rifle, Colo., and Sam Clark of Draper, Utah; sister, Carrie Clark Borges of Weatherford, Texas; and parents, Varro and Colette Hathaway Clark of Gilbert, Ariz.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at Christ Community Church, 5742 S. Fifth West in Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th St. in Idaho Falls, and for one hour Saturday before services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A lunch for friends and family will follow at the church.
