atricia Henry Talbert, of Bristol, passed away Monday, February 6, 2006, at the Cambridge House. She was born and raised in Appalachia, Virginia. She studied piano with Mrs. Willard Large and played for the First Christian Church of Appalachia from a very early age through high school. She graduated from Appalachia High School and Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia. While at Sullins, she studied with Dr. C.C. Loomis. Mrs. Talbert competed on the college level, winning first place in the State of Virginia Federation of Music. She represented the Commonwealth of Virginia in the All-Southern Piano Competition, placing 2nd. Mrs. Talbert graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music. She did graduate studies at the Cincinnati Conservatory of music studying under Dr. Robert Goldsand, a distinguished concert pianist from Bulgaria. She taught music at Lebanon High School and King College. Mrs. Talbert was a church organist at First Christian Church, Central Christian Church, Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church and McIver Memorial Presbyterian Church, all in Bristol. Mrs. Talbert was a member and past president of the Bristol Music Club as well as being a member of the Northeast Tennessee/Southwest Virginia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She was the sponsor of the Beethoven Junior Music Club and a member of the Bluff City Music Club. Mrs. Talbert was preceded in death by two sisters, Henrietta Kesner and Ruth Henry as well as her brother, Gerald Henry.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Lamar "Buddy" Talbert; three children, Lamar Talbert, II and his wife Charlotte of Denver, Colorado, Charles Talbert and his wife Lori of Jacksonville, Florida and Karen DiBiase and her husband August of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Zach Talbert, Michael DiBiase, Kayla and Autumn Willoughby; two sisters, Helen Wright of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, Margorie Gheen of Knoxville, Tennessee; and two brothers, Kenneth Henry of Big Stone Gap, Virginia and Richard Henry of Dandridge, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends from 6:15 until 7:15 Friday evening, February 10, 2006, at Central Christian Church. The funeral service will follow at 7:30 with Dr. Ross Dampier and Rev. Alan Chapman officiating. The family will also receive friends following the funeral service. The committal service and interment will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, February 11, 2006, in Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to McIver Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1900 Euclid Avenue, Bristol, Virginia and Central Christian Church, 424 Melrose Street, Bristol Tennessee, 37620.
