Sarah (Smith) Winchell Eberhard, daughter of Barbara (Rnitzing) and Zophnes Smith, married first William Barney Winchell who died in 1839 in LaPorte County, IN, and second John David Eberhard, son of Elizabeth Catherine (Gentzel) and Philip Eberhard, December 12, 1839, in Porter Township, Cass County, MI, as follows:

David Everhart(sic) & Sally Winchel(sic) Certificate of Marriage, Recorded & Filed March 20, 1840:
"On the 12th day of December 1839 Mr. David Everhart of the town of Colon St. Joseph Co. was lawfully married by me to Miss Sally Winchel of Porter Cass Co. at her father's residence in Porter. The former of the age of 31, the latter of the age of 19 - Henry Frederick & John S. Lane (?) being present at the ceremony. Porter March 20, 1840, Edwin S. Ferris, Justice of the Peace".

Child of Sarah (Smith) and William Barney Winchell is John B. Winchell.

Children of Sarah (Smith) Winchell and John David Eberhard are Martin Luther, Calvin Zopher, Apolion Augustus, Jefferson Boneparte, Lewis Philip, Lazarus D., Robert Psalter, B. Franklin, Ida Lovina, and Francis Marion.

Fortunately, Sarah kept a detailed Bible record of John David's family, including her children as well as Christenia's, which has given us a complete list of their given names, something which would be impossible to know without this record. In 2002 this Bible was held by Ms. Vivian A. Fennell of Fulton, Michigan, who generously shared its information with Eberhard researchers.
