Civil War Confederate Army Officer, Historian. He was a Lieutenant in the Fourth Kentucky (CSA) Infantry, which was part of a brigade of Confederate troops known as the "Orphan Brigade". After the war he was a popular speaker to veterans and military clubs. He published his memoirs in 1918 as "Reminiscences of a Soldier of the Orphan Brigade."
