He Came Home To Die.
H. Berry Bowen Passed Away Early This Morning - Was Home an Hour.
__H. B. Bowen, for the past nine years a trusted employe of the American Express company, died at the home of his mother, 423 Sixth avenue, at 3 o'clock this morning. The funeral arrangements have not been completed. Mr. Bowen is survived by a wife and bright little infant son¹. Mrs. Bowen was Miss Belle Monilaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William² Monilaw.
__A more pathetic case has seldom been recorded than the circumstances surrounding the death of Berry Bowen. For the past six months he has been a messenger on the F. E. & M. V. between Chadron, Neb., and Casper, Wyo., residing with his family at the former place. A few days ago he was taken ill, and with foreboding that he would never recover began to lay his plans for returning home to die. Mr. and Mrs. Bowen arrived this morning at 2:10, going direct to the home of Mr. Bowen's mother. The loving son and husband never spoke again. He recognized the members of the family and smiled at them all, his thoughts indicated plainly in his face. At 3 o'clock the end came, quiet and peacefully.
__Mr. Bowen was born in Vinton in March, 1871. He came to Cedar Rapids about nine years ago, since which time he has been connected with the American Express company. A host of friends will tender to the grief-stricken families their deepest sympathies.

¹ The obituary of John L. Knowlton identifies the son as Burdette Bowen.
² The obituary of John L. Knowlton identifies the father-in-law as "James Monilaw."
