Maria immigrated to America on the Brig Amicitia with her first husband, Jan De Velder, arriving on June 19, 1849. The Souvenir History of Pella, Iowa, p. 57, documents the family arriving in Pella, Iowa. 1850 census for Marion Co, Iowa shows John DerFelder along with wife Mariah and family. They are next to the Cornelius Van den Bos family [listed Vonderbush on ancestry]. Jan de Velder died after 1850 census date and before Dec 1852, the marriage of Isaac VD Meer and Maria VD Bos De Velder.

Obit for Maria VD Meer, De Volksvriend, dated 27 Mar 1890: Last Monday at Harrison, S. Dak, at the home of D. Van den Bos, Mrs. Maria Van der Meer died, the widow of the late Isaac Van der Meer. The deceased had suffered paralysis for years caused by a stroke. Her death was a result of this disease. She reached the age of 79 years and 6 months. She was the mother of John De Velder, Mrs. D. Van den Bos and Mrs. Johannes Klein. The funeral service took place on Wednesday, March 19. [Translated by J. Smith]
