Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Friday, December 19, 1952:
  Mrs. Edith J. Richards, 83, widow of the later Russell H. Richards, of 603 St. Louis street died Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Anthony's infirmary at Alton, of infirmities of advanced age.
  She was born July 9, 1869 in Southern Illinois, the daughter of the late Cicero and Mary Hadley. She married Russell H. Richards Feb. 2, 1888, in St. Louis, who preceded her in death Dec. 17, 1950.
  She is survived by one son, Clarence of Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Jordan of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Florence Sills of Edwardsville; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
  She attended St. John's Methodist church and was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service of that church.
  Friends may call at the Weber funeral home after 7 p.m. Friday until the hour of service, 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. J.E. Attey will officiate.
  The remains will be taken to Valhalla crematory in St. Louis for cremation.

Pallbearers were Robert Richards, Charles Richards, Clyde Metcalf, L.L. Chandler, Robert B. Dunlap and Edwards F. Long.
