Emma Louise Johnson was born in Kentucky to Jasper J. and Ada Williams Johnson. Jasper died when Emma was a young girl of ten years of age.

As a teenager Emma lived with her older brother, Lucian, and her sister, Iverson.

In 1936 Emma was married to Elza A. Meador. The young couple lived in Kentucky before settling in Evansville, Indiana, where Elza worked as a plumber. They were not to have children.

Emma was a devout Christian and devoted to teaching God's Word. A member of the Southern Baptist denomination, Emma dedicated her life to teaching young women in her church and helping to lead church camp. She was a champion of mission work and helped to educate others about the importance of missions.

Emma always wore her hair tight against her head, parted in the middle and in a bun at the back of her neck.

She and Elza shared their home with her mother-in-law after her father-in-laws death. She loved and treated her mother-in-law as her own mother.

Emma was survived by her husband, Elza.
