James was preceded in death by his loving wife Paula Ross Newland, his father James Lynn "Jimmy" Newland, and on February 12, 2015 his youngest brother Max Newland.
He was survived by his daughter Amber L. Newland Browning and husband Tom, the pride of his life, his granddaughter Paula Browning. His best friend, fishing and hunting buddy, his brother Jeff Newland (Kim) of Bethel, and his sister Frances Nelson (Bob) of Charlotte, NC.
James loved life, served in the US Army with his brother Jeff. He enjoyed lake fishing and deer hunting. He enjoyed NASCAR and NFL football as well as college level basketball. There was never a dull moment around James. His pride and joy was his granddaughter Paula whom will miss her "Papaw" very much. He worked for the Flint Corporation at the time of his death. He had many friends and acquaintances who thought the world of him. He will be missed by so many.
A Funeral Service was held at 12:00PM on Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Chapel of Faith of Moore Funeral Home at Forest Lawn, Candler, N.C. with Rev. Dr. Roy L. Kilby officiating. He was laid to rest beside the love of his life his late wife, Paula at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Candler, NC.
