Rosalene J. Kern, 77, of Denver, Iowa, died Sunday night, June 23, 2013, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa.

Rosalene was born July 16, 1935, in Urbana, Iowa, the daughter of Ronald Joy and Pauline Bernita (Rosekrans) Van De Venter. She grew up in Waterloo, Iowa, and on April 13, 1951, she was united in marriage to Harold Kern at Concordia Lutheran Church Parsonage in Waterloo. She was also confirmed and baptized at the Concordia Lutheran Church in 1953.

Throughout her life, faith was important to Rosalene, and she passed this on to her children. Most recently, she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Denver, Iowa. Rosalene enjoyed watching wildlife, including deer, turkey, and birds, especially hummingbirds. She and Harold raised seven children, teaching them a strong work ethic, moral values, a sense of humor, and a love for music.

Rosalene is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Harald; six children, Teresa (Mark) Nelson of Washougal, WA, Ricky (Kerri) Kern of Louisburg, NC, Peggy (Bill) Blaylock of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jessy (Janet) Kern of Denver, IA, Judy (Craig) Voshell of Janesville, IA, and Rosalinda (Terry) Wilson of Vinton, IA; twenty-six grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and James; daughter, Roxy Kidder; and granddaughters, Nicole and Natalie Kern.

Funeral services for Rosalene will be at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, with Pastor Larry Feldt, of St. John Lutheran Church in Denver, officiating. According to Rosalene's wishes, there will be no public viewing, but family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home.
