THIS STORY WAS WRITTEN BY ANNE KRISTINE IN A LETTER TO HER GRANDSON MARTIN POWELL "BUD" CHRISTENSEN. Bud Christensen is the father of Alvin Powell Christensen, who is the father of Brian Christensen.

"I was born in Scherrebek, Denmark on January 9, 1850 and Christened Anne Kirstine Schmidt. My hair was light brown, eyes blue and I grew to be 5'4". My grandmother was Martha, 3rd wife of Hans Jessen Hansen, who was the father of 15 children. My mother was the youngest, her name was Maren Hansdaughter. She had brown eyes and dark brown hair and grew to be, as near as I can remember, about 5'1" in height. Har parents died when she was very young and she did not remember them. After her parents death she lived with her elder brother in Scherrebek, where he taught school.

When my mother was eighteen years old, she married Peter P. Smith, a blacksmith. They had seven children. When the youngest was about two years old, Peter Smith died. She then married Johannes Jefsen, also a blacksmith. He was probably 5'10", blue eyes and fair. He was born Oct. 7, 1817 in Brons, Denmark. Two Children, a boy and a girl were born, I your Grandmother, Anne Kirstine being the girl. Mother Died age 90 and father 80.

I left Denmark in 1869 going directly to Omaha, Nebraska then on to San Francisco, California. There I married Martin Christensen in July of 1870. We had eight children, of whom your father, Alvin was the 6th child."
