Dorothy Mae Scott Smither was born December 20, 1922 in Huntsville, Texas to Charles and Lillie Scott. She departed this life on June 15, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was the last of 7 children born to Mr. & Mrs. Scott. She accepted Christ at an early age; joining First Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. R. S. Cole. She was a faithful and active member of the Usher Board and Mission Society at First Baptist for many years. In January 2011, Dorothy became a member of the Ministry of Light Baptist Church under Rev. Tommy L. Manuel, where she was an honorary member of the Mission Society.

Dorothy attended public school in Walker County. On March 30, 1941, she married Allen C. Moore and to this union was born Carolyn Ann. She last married Luby Leroy Smither on October 3, 1947 and to this union was born Vickie Jean and Marilyn Yvonne. Dorothy was a homemaker and a loving mother--training her children to love and serve the Lord. She took pride in and received immense joy from her church work and her children's scholastic and extracurricular school activities. For many years, she was a member of the Bracken's Fellowship club and enjoyed numerous trips and gatherings with that group. Later in life, and after her health began to fail, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a constant source of her joy.

For the last 8 ½ years of her life, Dorothy was a resident of the Ella Smither Geriatric (now Creekside) nursing facility. Over the last 2 years, with courage, faith, and a warrior-like spirit, she endured numerous medical ailments until God spoke and told her it was time to begin her eternal journey. Throughout her illness, Dorothy remained faithful to her Father in heaven. Truly she has earned her crown, because God had already promised her:

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two daughters, Carolyn Ann Moore and Vickie Jean Williams. She leaves to cherish her memories daughter, Dr. Marilyn Y. Byrd; granddaughter, Jessica Williams Horn & husband, Patrick of Missouri City, TX; grandsons, Blanton D. Moore of Austin, TX; Shannon K. Byrd of Huntsville, TX; Jason L. Williams & wife, Kameka of Pearland, TX; and Jarred B. Williams of Houston, TX; 7 great grandchildren; 2 nieces, 2 nephews; and other family and friends.
