SALTILLO – Martha Jewell Montgomery, 91, died March 4, 2015, at Longwood Community Living Center. Her parents were John David Andrews and Addie Mae Blankenship. She was born December 1, 1923, in the Palestine community, outside of West Point. She finished school at Moutpilier. While at school, she loved playing basketball. She was given the nickname "Doodie" as a child. All her nieces and nephews called her "Aunt Doodie." She was also called "little maw-maw" by her grandchildren. She had 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Birmingham Ridge Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and worked at North Mississippi Medical Center as an aide and ward secretary. She loved sewing, working in her garden and her family.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors with the Rev. Bobby Holland and Sammy Lansdell officiating. Private graveside service will be at McNeil Cemetery.

She leaves two sons, John Lyman Montgomery and wife, Debbie, of Saltillo and Lewis Edward Montgomery and wife, Pam, of Saltillo; two daughters, Addie Darlene Morrison and husband, Joel of Greensboro, NC, and Margaret Susan Whitehead of Saltillo; and one sister, Katie Bell Blankenship.

She was preceded by her by her husband, John Ed Montgomery; son, David Eddie Montgomery; her parents; siblings, Stacey Andrews, Ruby McWhorter, Lucille Andrews, Corrine Perkins, Margaret Tyler, Jimmy Andrews, and Charles Andrews.

Visitation will start at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015, at W. E. Pegues, Saltillo.

Pallbearers will be Doug Montgomery, Adam Montgomery, Jason Montgomery, Casey Montgomery, Leland Cox, John David Montgomery and Jake Montgomery.

Memorials may be made to Birmingham Ridge Baptist Church, 670 County Road 251, Saltillo, Mississippi 38866.
