Harry worked for the Dow Chemical Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church (Oak Forest, IL), attending at its Midland chapel, and had enjoyed reading and golfing.
He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather by his family which include his children and their spouses, Pamela D. (Paul) Bartlett of East Lansing, Scott J. (Brenda) DeWitt of St. Johns, and Phillip D. (Gina) DeWitt of Lansing, grandchildren; Andrew and Alexander Bartlett, Jennifer and Rebecca DeWitt, Dylan and Caraline DeWitt, brother Jack (Nola) DeWitt of Reed City, and his sister, Marjorie Rickert, of Clio.
In addition to his wife Ida Mae, he was predeceased by his sisters and brothers; Doris Thompson, Burton DeWitt, Ralph DeWitt, Dorothy Swiger, and Ruth Hicks.
Funeral services will take place at 1 pm Tuesday, March 28, 2000 at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St. The Rev. David T. Mensing of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate, with burial in Midland Cemetery.
Harry's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 pm, and on Tuesday from 12 noon until time of service.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
