Iva Emilie Anna Mehlberg was born on August 20, 1909, in Hunting, Shawano, Wisconsin, to Fred and Anna (Schuetpelz) and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Marion. She grew up on the family farm in with her siblings: Flossie (died age 18), Fred (Irene Haufe), Oscar "Pete" (Jeanette Gerbig), John (Ruth Mech), Gertrude (died age 6), Rose Draeger, Benjamin (Rose Vetterkind), Helen Hill, Arnold (Delores Dalum) and Elroy (Elaine Ebert). In 1930 at the age of 21 she was living in Ripon and working a seamstress at a cloth advertising factory she also was employed as a cook for the Yawkey family of Wausau prior to marriage. Iva married Emil William Blum on July 20, 1935. The couple farmed in Wittenberg where they raised their children: Donna, Duane and Dale. Ida died on July 28, 2000, in Wittenberg, Wisconsin, at the age of 90, and was buried there.
