Daniel (Dan) J. Becker, 87, of Nezperce, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, at the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Aug. 7, 1921, at Orofino, the son of Jacob and Ida Becker. Dan graduated from Nezperce High School in 1940. He attended the University of Idaho at Moscow for a short time before joining the U.S. Army Air Force to help defend our country during World War II.

Dan married Margaret B. Schmidt at Greencreek Nov. 16, 1946. They moved to the Becker farm north of Nezperce shortly after their marriage, where they farmed until they retired in 1993.

He was a member of the American Legion, The Grangeville Elks Lodge and served on the Nezperce School Board for more than 20 years.

Throughout his life Dan enjoyed welding art, woodworking and attending his sons' sporting events. He also enjoyed spending time with his six sisters-in-law.

Dan was preceded in death by his son, William Joseph, and two grandsons, Benjamin and Andrew Becker.
