Grad. UVA, prewar Alexandria lawyer, state legislator; Member of the Virginia Convention of 1861; Son of George Brent and Elizabeth Parsons Brent.

Major, 17th VA, May 2, 1861; dropped at April 1862 reorganization, Major AAG to Gen. Beauregard at Shiloh. LT. Col. May 1, 1861; Colonel, Aug. 8, 1863. Chief of staff to Gens. Beauregard and Bragg. Paroled April 26, 1865.

Postwar Alexandria lawyer, died of pneumonia; papers at Duke U. and Tulane U. Bragg said of Brent, "in every position he had given me more than satisfaction." Confederate Colonels: A Biographical Register, Bruce S. Allerdice, Univ. of Missouri Press, 2008
