A bull rider through and through, he fought his final battle with every ounce of strength he had in him.

James D. Izard was born on October 9, 1947 in Field Store, TX. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lou Jean, sons, Justin and Jay Dee, daughters Kory and Kelly, grandchildren Rhett and Rilynn, sisters Dena Bradshaw and husband W.L. and Nelta Vail, brother Sidney Moory and wife Shannon, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Dee and Marie Izard.

Riding bulls was his obsession for 15 years after his first win at the CyFair FFA Rodeo. After graduation from Waller High School, he completed a bachelor's degree at Sam Houston State University while on a rodeo scholarship and won United States Southern Region in 1969-1970 and advanced to the finals. After a year of teaching in the Huntsville Prison System, in which he joked he didn't have to deal with "Parental Involvement", he started his career with Exxon. Starting in Katy in "The Gang", he worked his way up after 34 years to a construction supervisor and spent the majority of his latter career in Western United States.

Although he traveled a great deal, he still kept his priorities in order. His family and friends were always important. J.D. was a very diverse person who had dear friends in so many social groups. He called Alvin, TX home for 30+ years where he could spend hours watching his cows and nature. St. Anthony's Church was his spiritual family and he was a 3rd degree knight in the Knights of Columbus. He loved his bond with his brother knights and could not wait until he was well enough to help again with the church yard mowing, maintenance, and the eventful all night barbequing for the church bazaar.

He once said this is a quote to live by, "We all ride and never worry about the fall. I guess that is just the cowboy in us all."
