Hazel D. Engstrom, 80, of Lancaster, Minnesota passed away at her home on Thursday evening, June 6, 2013. Hazel D. Karol was born June 26, 1932 at Caribou, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Mary (Safriuk) Karol. She grew up at Caribou and attended country school. Hazel was a child care provider and worked as a housekeeper for many years. On September 23, 1976 she was united in marriage to Arvid Engstrom at Lancaster. The couple farmed near Lancaster until their retirement in 1989. Arvid passed away on October 28, 1992. Hazel was a member of Sion Lutheran Church and WELCA.
Family members include a son, Jeffrey Karol, Brighton, TN; a daughter, Janie Karol, Jamestown, ND; grandsons, Paul and Christopher; several step grandchildren; three brothers, David (June) Karol, Halma, MN, William Karol, Columbia Heights, MN and Gerald (Joan) Karol, Howard Lake, MN; sisters, Violet (Willard) Levenhagen, Lake Bronson and Leona (Gary) Sunby, Henderson, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arvid; a brother, John; and sisters, Verna Dehrer and Georgine Irving.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in Sion Lutheran Church at Lancaster. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Austin Funeral Chapel at Hallock with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Melodi Hagen, presiding; Kristi Hagen, soloist. Casket bearers will be Mitchell Karol, Christopher Engstrom, Gary Karol, Wade Levenhagen, Andrew Levenhagen and William Levenhagen.
