Mr. Travis Salley, 89, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday June 16, 2013, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Ray Funeral Home. Services will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Breland officiaiting. Interment will be in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Salley was born in Webster County on January 4, 1924, to Pearle Atchison Salley and Ethel Middleton Salley. He attended Alva School and after graduating he left home to come to the Delta. On November 13, 1943, he married Margaret Sigmond in Cleveland, MS. He worked several jobs before becoming a projectionist at Ellis Theater which he enjoyed greatly. He then took a job with Nobetter Seed which later became Roger's Entomology. In the 1950's, he took a job with Jimmy Sander's Seed Company and remained there until his retirement in 1981. In the late 1980's, he started a wild flower garden on the South end of Memorial Drive and he continued this hobby until he had to dedicate full time to his wife's illness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pearle and Ethel Salley; his wife, Margaret Salley; and his brothers and sisters, Clytee Peeples, Montine Wood, Otis Salley, Burnice Salley, and Paul Salley.
Mr. Salley is survived by his sons, Thomas Lee Salley (Pam) of Clinton and James Salley (Gay) of Boyle; grandchildren, Joey Salley (Mary Virginia) of Boyle and Maura Salley Smith (Jeremy) of Merigold; great-grandchildren, Kylan Ellison of Cleveland, and Austin Gerald and Gunner Gerald both of Clarksdale; and his special caregivers, Marie Curry, Mary Phillips, Shelia Furr and Shirley Curry.
