Merl E. "Sonny" Willey, 71, Auction Road, Martinsburg, died peacefully Friday at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born in Cottontown, Blair County, son of the late Bruce E. and Mary E. (Reffner) Willey. He married Ruhama E. Robley on June 15, 1968, in Williamsburg.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Susan M. and husband, Tom Greenleaf, of Martinsburg; a son, Thomas E. and wife, Sheila Willy, of Roaring Spring; two sisters: Rose Bonsell in Virginia and Carol Keithley and husband, Dave, of Pavia, Pa.; four brothers: Charles Reffner and wife, Marianne, of Everett, Burl Willey and wife, Shirley, of New Paris, James Willey and wife, Dianne, of Bedford and Bruce Willey of Martinsburg; and four grandchildren: Ashley and Hanna Greenleaf and Brandon and Nicole Myers.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Arden.

Sonny attended the Salem United Church of Christ.

He worked most of his life as a mechanic, retiring from Miller Auto of Woodbury.

He enjoyed hunting, football, NASCAR, his dogs, but especially his family and grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the S. Gerald Weaver Funeral Home, Woodbury, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday by Pastors Betty Royer and Joel Nogle. Interment will be in the Martinsburg and Mennonite Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Martinsburg Sportsman Club, P.O. Box 212, Martinsburg, with a notation to go to the Hunters Safety Program.
